Don Orsillo Did A Good Job On TBS
October 12th, 2009 | by Darryl Johnston |Announcer Boy Gives Sox Fans A Feeling Of Home

It was nice having the hometown voice on the national broadcast. I found it a bit surprising considering that Don Orisillo covers the Red Sox 162+ games per year. While it wasn’t the first time that Orsillo did playoff baseball for TBS, it was the first time he covered the Red Sox. Buck Martinez was a little annoying at times as the color guy in the Angels-Sox series, but overall it seemed to work. Martinez just talks a lot. Not as much as Jim Kaat, but he talks way too much for my taste.
At least Red Sox fans didn’t have to listen to Chip Caray. That guy is the worst. Also I was a little disappointed in David Wells in-studio for TBS. I expected a little more firepower from him but I think having Dennis Eckersley and his Red Sox homerism kept Wells in check a little. I think it will be different for the ALCS when Eck is forced into situations where he will need to praise the Yankees.
But thank you, Don for giving everyone a sense of home during this three-game debacle. See you (hear you) in February.
