The Yankees Are Ogre From Revenge of the Nerds

1.7 billion dollars later and the New York Yankees have won another championship. You would think that spending $200 million dollars in 2009 should do that right? The last decade has cost them nearly 2 billion dollars, so really, it’s kind of sad when you look at it that way.

I guess it annoys me on three levels because I don’t like the Yankees. I’m not a ‘good sport’ about it and now the war is really on. Every year since I started watching the Red Sox (1988) until 2004, I had to listen to New York fans rub it in my face. Sorry I’m not all congratulatory. It’s not a good relationship, nor do I want it to be. I think only Red Sox fans can understand it.

My buddy Drew put it best:

The Yankees winning the World Series reminds me of that scene in Revenge of the Nerds when Ogre is arm-wrestling that chick and she almost beats, but then he wins at the last second and he gets up and cheers and everyone else stares at him, like big deal. No one but Yankee fans think that the Yankees winning once every 9 years is a big deal with the money they spend and can generate just due to where they are located.

At least Tony Massarotti is happy.
