Lester Wins 15th; As Boston Downs Orioles 9-6

Red Sox SP Jon Lester was shaky early, but overcame his rough start, to win his 15th game of the season, on Wednesday night in Baltimore. Lester gave up five runs on six hits in the first two innings, then held the Birds scoreless through the next four. A six run top of the 7th off the Baltimore bullpen gave Lester a four run cushion, and the Sox bullpen held on from there, to get Lester his 13th lifetime win against Baltimore.

Matusz Beats Bo Sox 5-2

Brian Matusz out dueled Josh Beckett on Tuesday night in Baltimore, and the Orioles went on to defeat the Boston Red Sox 5-2. For Matusz, it was his 7th victory on the season, and third in a row. Matusz went six solid innings, allowed only two runs, he walked one and struck out six. His only mistake on the night was a 3-1 pitch to 2B Jed Lowrie in the bottom of the 5th inning. Lowrie hammered it over the left field wall, for his 4th home run of the season. That made the score 3-2 in favor of Baltimore.

Red Sox Ship Delcarmen To Colorado For Balcom-Miller

Delcarmen has been pretty much a kerosene thrower this season for the Sox. Delcarmen is 3-2, with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. The Red Sox now have the second player in MLB with a hyphenated name.

Crawford’s Blast Helps Rays Beat Sox 5-3

The 100th home run of Carl Crawford’s career will be a memorable one for him. Not only is it a milestone, it helped propel the Tampa Bay Rays past the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night 5-3. It kept Tampa tied with the New York Yankees for 1st place in the Eastern Division at 80-50, and dropped Boston 74-57 6½ games behind in the division, and the Wild Card. The Sox chances of making the pre-season were severely diminished by last nights loss. They are not mathematically out of it, but are at least 10-1 underdogs to make it at this point.

Sox Fall In 10th Inning 3-2 On Dan Johnson’s Walk-Off Home Run

Dan Johnson’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning stuck a dagger in the hearts of Red Sox Nation on Saturday night. Johnson hit, what looked like a batting practice fastball on a 2-2 pitch off reliever Scott Atchison deep into the Tampa Bay night, giving the Rays a 3-2 win. It ended, what had been a great pitching duel between Matt Garza and Clay Buchholz.

Two V-Mart Home Runs Propel Lester To 14th Win

Jon Lester improved his record to 14-8, with a seven inning two-hit performance on Friday night at Tropicana Field. Victor Martinez hit two solo shots off left handed SP David Price, as the Red Sox bested the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1. Lester struck out 10 batters on the night, but was unusually erratic for most of the game. He walked five Tampa Bay hitters. It did not hurt Lester, that home plate umpire Gary Darling had a strike zone the size of Connecticut. It was called the same for both teams though. There was a combined 24 strikeouts between the two teams. In the end, Lester made the pitches he needed to make, to keep the Rays off the board. The only run the Rays managed off him was unearned, scoring as the result of a throwing error by SS Marco Scutaro in the bottom of the 4th inning.

King Felix Beats Red Sox 4-2

Felix Hernandez was the story in Fenway Park on Wednesday night. He struck out nine Red Sox batters in 7.1 innings, to secure his 10th win of the season. Hernandez does not usually garner much run support from the Mariner offense, but tonight in Boston, Felix made those runs stand up. The Red Sox ended up with a split of the day/night double header. The Red Sox 73-55 are still 5.5 games behind New York and Tampa Bay, who are tied at 78-49.

Just Shut Your Mouth And Do Your Job

3B umpire Angel Hernandez and 2B umpire Joe West should keep their mouths shut, and do their jobs. They have no business telling C Jonathan Papelbon to speed up his delivery etc. They are out there to umpire, not interfere with how a player goes about their business. They are by far, the worst umpiring crew in baseball. The home plate umpire in the afternoon game Rob Drake was atrocious.
